What is the Student Advisory Council? The Student Advisory Council, or SAC, is the group of students that is officially charged with representing the needs of the students to the decision-makers in the San Francisco Unified School District. The SAC is made up of two representatives from each public high school in San Francisco. The bylaws, or official rules of the SAC, state the purpose of the SAC:
“The Student Advisory
Council is a citywide, youth-led organization that is committed to providing a voice for the students of the San Francisco Unified School District by representing and presenting the interests of the students to the administrative and policy-making bodies of the San Francisco Unified School District.”
In normal language, this means that the SAC’s job is to tell the adult decision makers how students feel about various issues. Adults don’t really know what its like to be a teen in schools, and our job is to help express that experience.
