To Parents and Guardians of GATE/Honors
Students, The GATE office invites you to its Advisory Council meeting this evening, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7-8:30 p,m. at their office, 2550 25th Ave., Room 10. Maryann Lyons, retired GATE teacher, will speak about how instruction and curriculum are differentiated or modified for honors classes. Please let me know if you plan to attend.

eSCRIP is the electronic version of the paper scrip sold in many schools. It's as easy as registering your credit cards, grocery store cards, gas cards and ATM cards (any or all - the choice is yours). Each time you use a registered card at a supporting merchant, Aptos receives a percentage of your purchase. Check out eSCRIP at www.escrip.com.
Schoolcash and Schoolpop earn money for Aptos while you shop online. Register at the site and then shop with any participating merchant. When you enter a merchantís site via the Schoolpop or Schoolcash web page, Aptos receives a percentage. Questions about eSCRIP, Schoolcash or Schoolpop? Please call Lesa Gerhard at 415/452-1790. And tell your friends and families. You don't have to have a child at Aptos to participate.
The next time you buy selected General Mills products, send the box tops to your child's homeroom, and the PTSA will trade the box tops for CASH. (Box tops are marked ìBox tops for Education.î) We will earn 10 cents for every box top we send to General Mills. The classroom that collects the most box tops will win a prize at the end of the year! We are sending home flyers with details, so let's get started! ñ Denise Cartmill
As stated in the SFUSD handbook, schools are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Students are asked not to leave belongings outside of an unsecured gym locker for this reason. However, it is still a problem. Therefore we ask again the parents remind their children not to bring valuables to school, and to secure their belongings before gym class. Backpacks that donít fit in the lockers should be taken to the gym or the yard, where the class is.
Thanks to the generosity of our Aptos community, we have reached our Autumn Membership Drive goal of $4000. Special thanks to Principal Linal Ishibashi and all of the teachers and staff whose contributions helped us reach our goal in just 8 weeks. If you have not yet joined the PTSA, it is never too late. Basic membership is $10, but we welcome any additional amount you might care to contribute.
New members this week are Huashun Li and Lijuan Zhou, Sue Yip and Andy SooHoo, Leonardo and Angelita Salvador, Virginia Dye and Theresa Dye.
Helpers are needed for Beautification Day on Saturday November 2, from 10 am to 4 pm. The major project will be painting the cafeteria, but there will also be gardening, sanding and painting the benches on the yard, and a general clean out of some storage areas. We need volunteers who are willing to paint walls or benches, dig flower beds, pick up litter, and carry debris out to the dumpster. Refreshments will be served all day, and Beta Club members who bring their parents to help can earn community service hours for their own time and also for any hours worked by their parents. Last year, nearly 100 members of our community turned out for this event; we're hoping for an even bigger turnout this year!
Volunteers are also needed to help set up and serve the refreshments that day (this does not involve menu planning or shopping; that will be done already). If you can help serve refreshments, please contact Kitty Quinn-Friel at 621-5242 or at kquinn@sfsu.edu.
Our totally cool black sweatshirts featuring the fierce Aptos tiger are now available in adult small, as well as medium , large, XL, and XXL. All sizes are $20 and are available from Mrs. Roja in the office. Make checks payable to "Aptos PTSA".
Do you know an Aptos Angel? Has an Aptos teacher or staff member done something wonderful for you or your child - gone the extra mile, helped above and beyond the call of duty, given more of themselves than you expected? Then you know an Aptos Angel!
The PTSA is looking for Aptos Angels (and often they do their good deeds so discreetly that almost no one is aware of it). If you know one, please fill out the form below and return it to the office. All teachers and staff nominated as Angels will be acknowledged, and one lucky Angel will be selected at random for a reward from the PTSA at the end of the semester.
Nominations from adults only, please!
