CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Child Development Program, established in 1943, is the largest provider of early child care an educational services for young children in the City and County of San Francisco.
MISSION
Our mission is to provide early childhood education programs for children in a safe, caring, nurturing environment that promotes each child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and competency through developmentally appropriate experiences. We strive to validate the cultural and linguistic heritage of each child and support families in maintaining their children's physical and mental health.
OUR CHILDREN
We serve approximately 4,500 children in our infant/toddler, pre-kindergaten, and school-age programs. Our children reflect San Francisco's rich racial, cultural, and linguistic diversity and live in every neighborhood of the City.
OUR PARENTS AND FAMILIES
Our children's parents/guardians are working, attending schools or are in job training and meet federal and state income guidelines. They make valuable contributions to our program as decision makers and volunteers.
OUR CENTERS AND SERVICES
We operate sites throughout the City. Our programs are based on a sliding-fee scale determined by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division. Most centers are open five days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the year.
OUR FUNDING AND LICENSE
Our program's instructional and support services are funded by the Child Development Division of the California Department of Education, the San Francisco Unified School District, the Federal Child and Adult Care Food Program, and parent/guardian fees. Each of our sites is licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California State Department of Human Services.
NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY
The San Francisco Unified School District Child Development Program does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, or ethnic origin in the administration of education policies and opportunities. CDP does not include religious instruction or worship.
