participants have to say about the program!
Key Elements of the Summer Internship Program:
- Internships are in a range of professional settings and expose students
to various career fields.
- Incorporates learning goals agreed upon by the student, the worksite
supervisor, and a SFUSD teacher. The teacher also supervises
the student throughout the summer.
- Has a strong academic component, building upon classroom learning and
career development activities.
- An internship is a powerful hands-on learning experience for a student.
Benefits of participating as an employer partner:
- Productive contribution by motivated students in the workplace.
- Heightened workplace pride and morale, a chance for employees to develop
and practice leadership and mentoring skills.
- Expose future local workers to your industry.
- Positive publicity as a partner supporting San Francisco public schools
(in CTE publications and website, newspaper, events).
- Direct contribution to building vibrant schools and communities in San
Francisco.
How does it work?
- Employers submit an application to the Career Technical Education Office.
- The CTE Office matches students with our employer partners, based on
the internship description, student skills and interests, schedules, and
teacher recommendation.
- Employers attend an orientation in May to discuss specifics about high
school students in the workplace. The goal is to assure a quality
experience that is positive for both the employer partner and the student.
- The Summer Internship Program starts June 19, 2006 and runs for 6 weeks. It
includes both the work experience and a career development seminar taught
by a SFUSD teacher. Regular teacher supervision is also part of the program.
- The CTE Office is available throughout the summer to address any questions
or concerns that may arise.
