Teacher Valerie Ziegler has been named as one of five 2010 California Teachers of the Year. Ziegler has been teaching U.S. History, Economics, and Advanced Placement U.S. Government at Lincoln High School for the last five years.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell visited her classroom shortly after the award was announced.
"Valerie has tremendous rapport with her students, uses effective teaching strategies, and has excellent use of technology in her classrooom," said O'Connell during his visit.
Ziegler said she was thrilled to be selected.
She credits her mother as one of her main influences for her work today. "She was the best 'master teacher' I ever had."
