PARAPROFESSIONAL TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM

PROGRAM GOAL

Assist SFUSD paraprofessionals who want to become teachers

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

The San Francisco Paraprofessional Teacher Training, PTTP, is a collective agreement between the district, SFUSD, the union, UESF, and San Francisco State University and City College of San Francisco to recruit and support paraprofessionals to become credentialed, exemplary teachers in the District’s high need areas of Special Education and Secondary Mathematics, Science, PE, BCLAD teachers.

PTTP has placed over 163 teachers in SFUSD as classroom teachers.  Over 77% of these teachers are of ethnic or language minorities, similar to the District’s diverse student population.

Participant Support

Participants can receive a variety of financial assistance programs including:

  1. some college tuition at SFSU, www.sfsu.org or CCSF www.ccsf.org
  2. textbooks and supplies
  3. CSET www.cset.nesinc.com, and RICA www.rica.nesinc.com, test fees
  4. Cost of a fingerprint clearance certificate www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/fee-and-fingerprint.html

Participant Entry REQUIREMENTS

  1. Current SFUSD paraprofessional working with K-12 students
  2. Interested in teaching Special Education, Math, Science, PE or Bilingual Education
  3. Passed CBEST  www.cbest.nesinc.com
  4. Ability to attend PTTP monthly training sessions on the first Friday evening of each month
  5. Current college student with a minimum of 48 general ed. units
  6. Cumulative GPA 2.67 or higher
  7. Participants will agree to teach in SFUSD equal to PTTP years of support
  8. Interest in Intern positions after obtaining a BA/BS and passing CSET.

Teacher Academy High School students need a High School diploma, and CBEST passing scores and a work permit if under 18.

Application

Candidates must submit an application, three letters of recommendation, a statement of interest , college transcripts and CBEST results.  Paraprofessional -To-Teacher Program Application
